Keith O’Hara is the son of Laurel O’Hara, a Finance Specialist for Multnomah County’s Tax Accounting department, where she corrects taxes and audits payments to taxpayers’ accounts, as well as processes authorizations for property tax refunds. She is a 14-year member of Local 88.
Keith is a senior at Fort Vancouver High School. The scholarship is for $2,000 per year, and renewable for up to four years. He is planning to attend either the University of Washington in Seattle or the Washington State campus in Vancouver as an undergraduate, with the long-term goal of enrolling in UW’s Medical School to become a family practice physician. He currently participates in the Medical Arts magnet program at Fort Vancouver High.
A major piece of the annual scholarship program is an essay entitled, “What AFSCME Has Meant to Our Family.” Keith’s essay is reprinted below.
Please note that full information about the AFSCME Family Scholarship program and many other scholarship opportunities for Oregon AFSCME members is always available on the Scholarships tab of the Council 75 website.
