AFSCME Council 75 has voted to support the effort to save KPOJ’s Progressive Radio Format. Kari Chisholm, of the Blue Oregon blog is spearheading the effort. Here’s what you can do and the latest news on the effort:
Wow. What a response! At last count, 11,251 people have signed the Save KPOJ petition, and 4266 people have joined the movement on Facebook.
Thank you for signing on to our campaign. I can’t remember when I last saw such extraordinary surge of grassroots enthusiasm.
Not only that, but the Save KPOJ campaign has been endorsed by Senator Ron Wyden, Senator Jeff Merkley, and RepresentativesPeter DeFazio, Earl Blumenauer, and Suzanne Bonamici. The Multnomah County and Marion County Democratic Parties have endorsed the campaign. And the Oregon AFL-CIOhas endorsed Save KPOJ and dedicated staff to help us win this fight.
These endorsements happened because of you. Because you stepped up and made yourself heard. When the people lead, leaders will follow!
So, what’s the next step? We’re working on finding pressure points at Clear Channel, at the FCC, and among the Congressional oversight committees. There also seems to be interest from some investors in launching a new progressive talk radio station in Portland. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, here’s what you can do right now. Help us keep growing. Help us keep up the momentum. Forward this email to your friends and ask them to sign on, too. Share the Save KPOJ petition with your friends on Facebook and Twitter.
Whether KPOJ comes back, or whether we launch a new progressive station in Portland, we can win this fight.
