AFSCME Local 88 held its annual Holiday Party at the Portland AFSCME office on Wednesday Dec. 19 hosted by Susan Palmer, Local 88 Secretary, and Deirdre Mahoney-Clark, Local 88 Vice President.
Over one hundred people attended the festive event, including Santa (also a member in disguise) who delighted the many children attending with their families. Members and their families were greeted with door prize tickets, gifts of a 2013 Labor calendar, a Local 88 pin and new Local 88 lanyard and ID badge holder. AFSCME green will be visible in many more offices around the County as proud members wear their ID.
Door prize drawings were held every 15 minutes with special guests assisting our Emcee, member Jackie Tate.
Jeff Cogen (Multnomah County Chair), Steve March (Multnomah County Auditor), Beckie Lee (Chief of Staff for Commissioner Kafoury), Steve Herron (Labor Relations Director), and Santa each took a turn at drawing tickets to award door prizes of $20 gift cards to Fred Meyer or $10 gift cards to Burgerville.
An assortment of hot and cold appetizers, salads, desserts and beverages were enjoyed, all wonderfully coordinated by Nicole Newsom. Gary Sinnen and Korie Erickson tended the beverages bar with an assist by Percy Winters, one of our newest Stewards.
Tasty food, music, laughter and the chance to visit with member friends and co-workers was the order of business during this fun evening event. Three candidates running for Oregon AFSCME Council 75 officer positions also came to the party: Mark Abrahams is running for Council 75 Treasurer, and Council 75 President candidates Jeff Klatke and Tina Turner-Morfitt also attended.
Having the chance to meet new members and re-connect with others is one of the best parts of our annual Holiday Party. The Officers and Executive Board of Local 88 thank everyone who attended with a special thanks to those who volunteered to plan this event and also stay after to help clean up.
