An election was held on May 15th to fill the vacancy of the office of Secretary for Local 88. Korie Erickson of DCHS was elected and will serve out the remainder of the term until November of 2013. We welcome Korie and thank everyone for their participation and involvement. Below is the statement Korie made as a candidate:
Statement by Candidate, Korie Erickson
My name is Korie Erickson and I have been a part of Local 88 for almost 5 years. I have been an active member in Next Wave and our local for the past 2 years. It’s important to have younger members involved. We are the future of our union. Being a part of Next Wave has taught me that younger members do have a voice and do have a valid opinion that should be heard, and I’m learning valuable leadership skills that will help further our union and also I have decided that I want to get more involved than just being a Steward and being on the Executive Board for our Local. That is why I have decided to run for our local Secretary position. I want younger members of our union to see that we can make a difference, that our voices are being heard, and most of all, being accepted by our senior members who have been involved in Local 88 for many years. We are the future of a growing stronger union, and I’m excited to be a part of that future. Even if I do not get elected, I will continue to be active, seeking to get younger members involved.
