The most immediate one is for the Union Plus program. Union Plus offers scholarships for members and family ranging from $500 to $4,000. But Union Plus applications, including essays and a reference letter, must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 31, at 9 a.m. Pacific time.
Union Plus provides $150,000 in scholarships annually to retired or active members who belong to a union participating in any of the Union Plus programs, including Oregon AFSCME. Spouses and dependent children (as defined by the IRS) are also eligible. For more information about eligibility how to apply or to learn more about the Union Plus Scholarship program in general, you can visit www.UnionPlus.org/Scholarship.
Most other scholarship programs operate with a March 1 deadline, but it’s always good to turn in applications as early as possible. A full list of information and links to both Oregon-based scholarships and opportunities through AFSCME International is always available on the Scholarships tab of the Oregon AFSCME website.
