The bargaining team is pleased to announce that we’ve reached a tentative agreement (TA) on a new contract with county management! We could not have reached this TA without the hard work of our bargaining delegates and bargaining team as well as all of our members that put in time distributing information, making our work sites green on Wednesdays and turning out to rallies and information pickets.
In the next few days we will be developing a comprehensive summary of the TA that will be published on the website by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. Below are a few highlights:
1.) Cost of Living Adjustment retroactive to July 1, 2017 equal to $0.60/hour or 2.2% whichever is greater. For employees that the $15/hr minimum on July 1, 2017 instead of a COLA they will advance one step to $15.29 on that date then effective (or retroactive to) their anniversary date for this fiscal year they will advance to $15.74.
2.) Employee’s designated as inclement weather essential employees will receive 2 saved holidays per year (for 2017-18 it will be one saved holiday.)
3.) Expanded definition of family for bereavement leave and sick leave usage.
4.) Better contract language related to alternative work schedules and contract language for the first time related to telework.
5.) New contract language related to transparency and fairness in the hiring/promotion process
6.) There will be some changes related to Moda and Kaiser in 2019 but the changes are significantly reduced from the County’s first proposal in July. A description of the changes will be coming out next week.
