SUMMARY:ADA Pilot Training for Stewards
DESCRIPTION:We’re looking to expand our engagement and support for members with disabilities. Many members with disabilities request reasonable accommodations through their employer\, which is a multi-stepped process that can be frustrating\, confusing\, and uncertain. Requests for accommodation can take months and often union members ask for support from stewards. \nWe are working to increase steward understanding of reasonable accommodations and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA is the law that protects disabled people’s access to businesses\, jobs\, transportation\, and federal and local governments. Stewards who complete this training will gain a better understanding of the ADA and the rights of disabled workers\, reasonable accommodations\, and ways to promote inclusion of our colleagues with disabilities. \nBoth trainers are disabled Local 88 employees who have either completed or will soon complete their ADA Coordinator (ADAC) certification. This pilot training will be limited to 20 stewards\, but there will be future opportunities for additional Local 88 Stewards and members to take the training. \nQuestions? Send an email to local88ada@gmail.com. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister online by April 11th. Attending during work hours? Fill out the Lost Time Request Form

SUMMARY:Trauma In the Workplace Action Meeting
DESCRIPTION:In response to concerns about increasing reports of workplace violence\, Local 88 Co-Lead Stewards Rachel O’Rourke\, Acute Care Coordinator/Behavioral Health Crisis Line/Multnomah County Health Department\, and Alice Busch\, Emergency Management Analyst Sr. / Multnomah County Emergency Management Department\, collaborated with union leadership to develop and launch a Trauma in the Workplace Survey. \nThe survey was sent out to 2\,800 Local 88 members in February. Over 90 percent of employees who completed the survey report that they are experiencing trauma reactions. Response to the survey has been overwhelming and we need to organize and take action. Building a Workforce Wellness Committee made up of Multnomah County employees will be the first step. \nVirtual Meeting\nVideo call link: https://meet.google.com/piu-hsqz-bnq\nOr dial: ‪(US) +1 980-221-2670‬ PIN: ‪175 440 904‬#\nMore phone numbers: https://tel.meet/piu-hsqz-bnq?pin=6082756097176
