Local 88 Update

Dear Local 88 Members,

Just wanted to send out an email to let you know what is happening in our union and opportunities for you to get involved. You can also go to our website to find more information and resources: www.afscmelocal88.org

What’s happening and how can you participate? SOS Campaign Advocacy

  • We are working on our campaign to prevent as many layoffs as possible and have joined a coalition of other AFSCME workers impacted by both the County and City cuts to staff, programs and services. This campaign is called SOS, the Save Our Services campaign. Please read more below and fill out the survey.

  • Please complete the survey by this Thursday, April 9th, 2026

  • The goal of the survey is to help fight for us, our jobs, our programs and our communities and provide opportunities for you to tell your story, advocate and even talk to County and City leaders! Council 75 staff will follow up with people who complete the survey.

  • Save Our Services Funding Advocacy survey

SOS campaign: These budget cuts could impact thousands of members’ jobs and would have a drastic negative impact on the services the cities and counties provide. Oregon AFSCME workers are the front line workers who deliver services, skills and compassion. Oregon AFSCME workers are employed by The City of Portland, Multnomah County, and some of the community based organizations contracted by both entities, are directly impacted by these budgets and the policy implications. The Save Our Services Campaign is a coordinated campaign including L88, L189, L1790 to collectively advocate for the County and the City to prioritize direct services. Now is the time for Oregon AFSCME to protect our jobs by providing real-world examples of why skilled labor is key to quality community services instead of investments in administrative bloat, like loopholes, consultants, and too many managers.

County workers: Last Chance to check seniority list!

  • Just a reminder to check your seniority. The list was finalized April 1st, but according to our contract, “seniority dates will be frozen during the bumping/layoff process consistent with the release of the Chair’s Executive Budget”. The chair releases her budget April 16th. So check the list and if there is an issue, reach out to HR ASAP!
