Holiday Assistance

Dear Local 88 Members,

Just wanted to share with you a resource for the December holidays. I know many folks are having a hard time and this is an opportunity for assistance from your union family. We are working with Labor’s Community Service Agency’s “Presents from Partners” program to assist 15 Local 88 families. I am sharing the program information below and how to apply for assistance.

To Qualify, the “Presents from Partners” eligibility requirements are:

  • A dues paying Local 88 union member

  • You or your partner have been out of work for 2 or more weeks in the last 6 months;

  • OR, Sustained a serious financial hardship due to long-term unemployment, medical crisis, death/disability of a family member, or a natural disaster;

  • OR, Your family is experiencing a housing crisis, domestic violence or other significant issues

  • AND you live within an hour of the Portland area (There is some capacity to serve other areas on a case-by-case basis and we will do our best to include you, so please don’t hesitate to ask!)

What you receive:

  • Each family can expect to receive 2 gifts for each of the children (under 15) in their household, a food box, a gift card for their family, and a packet of resources & information from local partners who contributed to make PFP possible. 16-18 year olds will receive a gift card vs 2 gifts.

To apply:

  • Fill out this Request for Assistance form by November 26th (also available on the local 88 website)

  • Be available for a brief screening interview via phone on November 28th

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly at President@afscmelocal88.org. And, please join us for membership meetings on the 3rd Wednesday evening of the month, register on the website! We welcome your participation in our union!

In Solidarity, Jackie Tate
