In response to concerns about increasing reports of workplace violence, Local 88 Co-Lead Stewards Rachel O’Rourke, Acute Care Coordinator/Behavioral Health Crisis Line/Multnomah County Health Department, and Alice Busch, Emergency Management Analyst Sr. / Multnomah County Emergency Management Department, collaborated with union leadership to develop and launch a Trauma in the Workplace Survey.

The survey was sent out to 2,800 Local 88 members in February. Over 90 percent of employees who completed the survey report that they are experiencing trauma reactions. Response to the survey has been overwhelming and we need to organize and take action. Building a Workforce Wellness Committee made up of Multnomah County employees will be the first step.
