Are you interested in learning more about becoming a Local 88 union steward? There are 4 – 1 hour training modules required to become a Local 88 steward. These sessions are being offered online Thursday evenings in April.
Introductory Steward Training Thursday, April 7th, 6-7:30pm
This is an introductory course for new stewards. This training gives an overview of knowing your contract, investigatory meetings, and filing grievances. After the training, we’ll be checking in with participants to answer questions, providing a toolkit, and providing opportunities for follow-up training.

Knowing Your Contract Thursday, April 14th, 6-7pm
This is a follow-up to the Virtual Introductory Steward Training. This session will cover common contract language terms and definitions, help members get more familiar with their contract, and explore contract interpretation.

Filing a Grievance Thursday, April 21st, 6-7pm
This is a follow-up to the Virtual Introductory Steward Training. This session will cover how to decide if you have a grievance, the five steps of grievance handling, and give participants an opportunity to practice and gain skills in writing grievances.

Investigatory Meetings Thursday, April 28th, 6-7pm
This is a follow-up to the Virtual Introductory Steward Training. This session reviews the role of a steward in investigatory meetings, reviews Weingarten and Garrity Rights, covers best practices in an investigatory meeting, and will have example meetings.
