We have received reports that some departments and programs have begun notifying workers of potential layoffs due to proposed budget cuts. While the County may provide early notifications when possible, final decisions depend on many factors, and the budget often changes throughout the process.
If you are informed that you may be impacted by a layoff, you have rights under our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Layoffs are governed by Article 21, which outlines the process, including notification timelines, bumping rights, and recall procedures.
What You Should Do
- Stay informed. The budget process is fluid, and layoffs are not certain until the final budget is approved.
- Know your rights. Review Article 21 in the CBA and the layoff flowchart below.
- Seek support. If you receive a layoff notice or believe you may be impacted, reach out to a Steward for guidance on your options, including potential alternatives.
Your Union is here to support you through this process. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. The chart below shares the lay off flow chart. (PDF)
