Communications Survey Results

Thank you everyone for responding to the Local 88 Communication Survey!

The goal of the survey was to determine members’ preferences for how they receive information, to assess the language barriers experienced by members, and to start connecting with you on how Local 88 communicates. We received 205 responses and are grateful for your thoughtful input.
  • The results indicate we’re on the right path. For 95% of respondents, email was the preferred method of communication. Next were text (30%), Local 88 website (17%) and social media (7%). Meetings were indicated as preferred by less than 1%.
  • Of those that preferred social media, Facebook was the most commonly cited.
  • When asked if you would like union information in another language, 92% responded “No” and 13% responded “Yes.”
  • When asked if you know a co-worker who would like union information in another language, 84% responded “No” and 22% responded “Yes.”
  • Top language suggestions included Spanish (11%), Vietnamese (3%), and Russian (2%). The rest were mentioned one or two times: Arabic,  Chinese, Somali, Tagalog, Japanese, Romanian, and Mandarin.
It’s clear from the survey that we should continue to communicate to members using email. And it was also clear how much members care for those that work around them in trying to ensure people feel included.

Next steps

1.    The Communication Committee will review the comments and recommendations received from the survey.
2.    Joslyn will look into a wider use of text messaging, to include the ability to opt in.
3.    And, unfortunately, we have to defer the gift card drawing of the survey responders. Due to our survey design team forgetting to include the question on contact information, we aren’t able to randomly select people from those who submitted a response. We’re so sorry and commit that in our next opportunity, we will select 10 participants to receive prizes.
