Lost Time (noun): Time off from regular employment to conduct union business

Simply put, lost time just means that you’re doing union work and you still get paid.

There are three kinds of lost time. Before claiming lost time for the first time or if you’re not sure which one to use, check with the treasurer–the Local 88 treasurer can help you decide which kind to claim and which forms you may need to fill out.

  • UT01: Union Time Paid in Workday – used for general steward duties. To use this a member must be an appointed steward or committee member. This type of lost time does not have to be approved by the general membership.
  • UR01: Union Time Reimbursable in Workday – used for non-political union events. The member gets paid by the county then the union pays the county back. This type of lost time requires approval by the general membership or eboard as an emergency motion. Fill out the Lost Time Request Form ahead of time.
  • UU01: Union Time Unpaid – used for political events or when a union member is replacing a staff rep. This is unpaid county leave–the member will be paid through union payroll. This type of lost time requires approval by the general membership or eboard as an emergency motion. Fill out the Lost Time Request Form ahead of time.

Lost time for members who are employed by sublocals, CCC or TPI, requires approval by the general membership or eboard as an emergency motion. Fill out the Lost Time Request Form ahead of time.
