Dear Local 88 Family,

We are happy to announce that we reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) with the County management bargaining team on a new Union Contract yesterday evening. This TA wouldn’t have been possible without all of the work of our bargaining team and bargaining delegation, and all of our members who participated in our actions around the County in the last two months. Below are a few highlights of the TA:

  • COLA & Bonuses: While the County was not willing to increase the COLA in the first year of the contract above 5%, we were able to push them to increase bonuses in the first year ($2,500) and ($2,000) in the second year. Additionally the County agreed to bargain with us over market adjustment increases for up to 45% of the bargaining unit, up to 90 job classifications over the next 3 years. The average range adjustment we’ve negotiated in the past has been a two range adjustment (6% increase in the bottom step and top step of the pay range.)
  • Paid Leave: We were successful in negotiating  leave accruals for workers in three ways 1.) we will receive an additional floating holiday per year.  2.) sick leave accrual will increase by about 8 hours per year. 3.) vacation accrual rates for employees between 2 and 15 years of service will increase by about 8 hours per year. Vacation caps will also increase for all employees over 2 years of service.
  • Bilingual Pay: We were also successful in negotiating  better contract language around Bilingual Pay – where an employee that has been assigned duties that causes them to translate on a routine basis, they will receive a 4% premium on all hours worked. An employee doesn’t have to have a KSA to receive the premium.
  • Safety & Health For the first time we now have contract language requiring the County to provide a safe work environment!

Complete Summary of TA

While the County was not willing to memorialize Indigenous Peoples Day in the contract, they have committed to exploring the creation of an observed paid holiday.  Trauma and Emergency Leave are not a part of this TA but we plan to continue to work toward these goals over the term of the contract.  A complete summary is below.

Over the next two weeks we will be scheduling numerous worksite and virtual informational meetings.  A complete list including dates, times and locations will be available early next week.  Watch our website  and your email for updates.  The ratification vote on this TA will be an online vote, with balloting beginning on Monday, Nov. 7 through Nov. 14. The Bargaining Team recommends ratification of this TA.
