ADA Pilot Training for Stewards: April 16th, 2 pm – 4 pm

We’re looking to expand our engagement and support for members with disabilities. Many members with disabilities request reasonable accommodations through their employer, which is a multi-stepped process that can be frustrating, confusing, and uncertain. Requests for accommodation can take months and often union members ask for support from stewards.

We are working to increase steward understanding of reasonable accommodations and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA is the law that protects disabled people’s access to businesses, jobs, transportation, and federal and local governments. Stewards who complete this training will gain a better understanding of the ADA and the rights of disabled workers, reasonable accommodations, and ways to promote inclusion of our colleagues with disabilities.

Both trainers are disabled Local 88 employees who have either completed or will soon complete their ADA Coordinator (ADAC) certification. This pilot training will be limited to 20 stewards, but there will be future opportunities for additional Local 88 Stewards and members to take the training.
